hyacinth vases

Hyacinth vases were first used in the Georgian period but became very popular in Victorian times

they came in lots of different shapes, sizes and colors

1950s glass Hyacinth vases with frosted & gilt bands

My week started good and I feel good.We are trying to eat healthy .
I did have the idea to make some fresh soup on saturdays.., going to the market in the morning, getting some fresh veggies & bread. And then make some soup when we get home. Any soup ideas?

My blog of the week Kolonidagar (a small green house with lots of cool vintage)

My hyacinths will just not grow! They've moved about 4mm since Christmas Day! Love the 50s vases for them. Emma

My first hyacinth is blooming, the others will take a while, they need some sunshine. Love yours and the the beautiful vases...I am home for the 2nd day because of the huge ice/snowstorm, made a bean/pea and lentil soup, made it quite thick and baked some cornbread, just right for a cold winter's day...My neighbor dropped off some Taco soup, was very delicious...

I have here grown a hyacinth in my home- I think the monkeys would quite enjoy it-

I made soup every Sat- We have chicken for Shabbat dinner on Fridays so I use that as my base to make a stock- Some of our regulars are sweet potato and cauliflower soup-

Have a great day!

Lovely hyacinth vases - I didn't know they were used as long ago as that! Just about to have tomato and lentil soup :)

You have so many of these vases! Pretty. I like simple vegetarian lentil soup. I put in onions, celery, carrots, lentils, canned diced tomatoes, chopped kale, salt, pepper, thyme. Sometimes I add a little bit of another grain or bean - like barley or split pea.

You have a lovely collection of vases. I collect old finnish ones by Tamara Aladin and Helena Tynell.
Warm soup sounds delicious.

I have never seen hyacinths vases before. Awesome! My hyacinths are blooming in ordinary flowerpot.
I suggest tomato soup with fresh basill and Parmesan cheese.
